You have found the dress of your dreams and now it’s time to make sure it’s a perfect fit. Your alterations appointments are soo important! Make sure you have ample time to alter the dress to fit your body. Things like a hem and straps are standard in alterations. Things like additions of sleeves or taking away parts of your dress are not standard alterations so those may take more time and planning to complete. Make sure that you give the seamstress enough time to execute the look you want and then perfect it in other fittings.
Slip on your wedding shoes.
For your 1st fitting you make sure you have the shoes you plan on wearing on your wedding day. Your dress needs to be hemmed to the height of your shoes. Before your alterations can begin, you’ll need to make sure you have your wedding shoes that you’d like to wear with your wedding dress. Even if you don’t know exactly which pair of shoes you’d like to wear, bring a pair with the same heel height so your fitter can begin work on pinning your hem and train. Forgetting your shoes will create more work for your fitter and may cost you an extra fitting to accommodate the work.
Step into your dress.
After you put on your undergarments and shoes you will try on your gown for the first time since your inspection. Its so exciting alterations mean that your wedding date is approaching! Your dress was ordered according to your measurements so it will likely not be a perfect fit until after alterations are completed.
After that the remainder of your appointment is discussing what changes need to be done. And of course, pinning the hem and any other parts of the dress that need altering.
Be Prepared to stand
You will be on your feet in your wedding shoes for at least a half hour. Stay hydrated and fed to keep up your energy.
Leave your dress in the capable hands of your seamstress
The dress of your dreams is being taken care of by the professionals. The next time you put it on it will be that much closer to perfection.
Schedule your next fitting
Make your appointment for your next fitting with the seamstress. Usually they will tell you when the gown will be ready for its next fitting. Try not to miss or reschedule your appointments. The seamstress can only begin to do the other work after each fitting until it is perfect.
